The island of Socotra lies only 150 miles off the Horn of Africa, but one look at its surreal landscape and it might be mistaken for another planet.

Wow. Talk about surreal. I had to look up more info on it: Socotra on Wikipedia.

  • It's actually part of Yemen
  • It's one of the most isolated landforms on Earth of continental origin
  • A third of its plant life is found nowhere else on the planet
  • Several of the female lineages on the island, notably those in mtDNA haplogroup N, are found nowhere else on earth
