Wow. Talk about surreal. I had to look up more info on it: Socotra on Wikipedia.

  • It's actually part of Yemen
  • It's one of the most isolated landforms on Earth of continental origin
  • A third of its plant life is found nowhere else on the planet
  • Several of the female lineages on the island, notably those in mtDNA haplogroup N, are found nowhere else on earth
